Shubman Gill continued his impressive form in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In a high-pressure Qualifier 2 against the Mumbai Indians (MI), GT’s opener hit a sensational hundred to break into the record books. The right-handed hitter made hitting look ridiculously easy when he scored his third hundred of the season and that too in a knockout game to help his team post a mammoth 233/3 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
An extraordinary century in a game that must be won 👊🏻
Well played Shubman Gill 👏👏

With this inning, Gill broke several records while also showing that he has the potential to break many of those batting records for years to come. The 23-year-old became the fourth hitter in tournament history to break into the 800-run club in a single season. He accomplished the feat at the same time as he became this season’s leading run-scorer, surpassing the tally of Faf du Plessis, whose Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have already been knocked out. Before Gill joined the club on Friday (May 26), Virat Kohli (973 of 16 matches in IPL 2016), Jos Buttler (863 of 17 matches in IPL 2022) and David Warner (848 of 17 matches in IPL 2016) they had the distinction of scoring over 800 runs in a single edition of IPL.

On Friday, Gill finished with an amazing 129 from 60 balls. His hit was studded with seven limits and 10 sixes. With this, he even broke Virender Sehwag’s record for the highest individual score in an IPL Playoffs match. Sehwag had scored 122 while playing for the Punjab Kings in IPL 2014.
