Weeks after a 26-year-old woman died by suicide in Borivali (East), police arrested a person on Wednesday for allegedly extorting money from a woman and being an accessory to her suicide.

On April 3, the woman had allegedly ended her life by hanging herself in her home.

The Kasturba Marg police filed a case when her family filed a complaint three weeks after finding out she was being harassed and extorted. The accused was identified as Sunny Arjun Kushalkar, who threatened her to tell everyone about her relationship with her and demanded money from her. “He had demanded 10,000 rupees from her and was blackmailing her,” the deceased woman’s older sister said in her statement to police.

“I had even once told her to commit suicide,” said the woman’s older sister, who is also the plaintiff in the case.

“Based on the complaint from her family, we have arrested the defendant under sections 306 (incitement to commit suicide), 386 (extortion placing a person in fear of death or serious harm) and 387 (putting a person in fear of death or serious harm). , to commit extortion) from the IPC,” said a policeman.
